Imperial Treasure La Mian Xiao Long Bao, Marina Square

Imperial Treasure La Mian Xiao Long Bao is to the Imperial Treasure group of restaurants what Crystal Jade La Mian Xiao Long Bao is to the Crystal Jade group of restaurants.

It focuses primarily on Shanghainese cuisine, so you get your Shanghainese mainstays such as la mian (hand-pulled noodles) and xiao long bao here.

We ordered the Fried Rice with Crab Meat and Egg-White ($12), a lighter version of the usual fried rice, with scrambled egg-whites, shredded fresh crab meat for sweetness and diced melon for some crunch. This was really quite delectable.

The Rice Soup with Vegetables and Mushrooms ($5) caught my eye, and this turned out to be absolutely delicious. It's Teochew-style porridge, where the rice grains are still intact, in a delicate soup base with chunks of baby white cabbage (nai bai) and sauteed button mushrooms.

We also ordered the Braised Beancurd with Assorted Mushrooms ($10.80), with shitake, shimeiji and white button in a sticky gooey oyster sauce gravy. This was simple but so addictive.

We were in a soupy mood, so we shared the Sweet Corn Soup with Crab Meat ($7), starchy chicken based soup with sweet corn nibblets, egg-drops and fresh crab meat.
