Every Chinese New Year period, Zi Yean offers a few dishes that reflect the seasonal best and festive favourites.
Like the Braised Empire Chicken Stuffed With Chestnuts ($25), it's like the Chinese version of Thanksgiving Turkey. The chicken's even got its own luscious oyster-sauce and wolfberries infused brown gravy. This dish is only available during this period, and replaces the usual Empire Chicken stuffed with Preserved Vegetable.
The nutty fragrance of the perfectly softened chestnuts lent themselves well to the braised chicken.
The Deep Fried Beancurd Skin Stuffed with Prawn ($20 for 5 pcs) is a plump succulent prawn enveloped in a crispy beancurd skin.
The Sauteed French Beans in Chef's Special Sauce ($14) is aromatic, mildly spiced and coated with a dried seafood and oyster sauce seasoning, with an emphasis on shrimpish flavours. Baby french beans are used so they are extra skinny and crisp.
