Baan Rim Pa Thai Restaurant, Phuket, Thailand

Baan Rim Pa is one of the most celebrated and famous restaurants in Phuket. The restaurant located in a teak house on a cliff overlooking Patong Beach, so you get panoramic views of the bay and soothing rhythmic sounds of the waves crashing against the rocks below. This is one restaurant we dressed up for a romantic night out.

In line with its elegant digs and romantic theme, Baan Rim Pa serves "Royal Thai Cuisine". I can't tell the difference between typical Thai cuisine and "Royal Thai Cuisine", the menu seems to offer really just "the usual" Thai food.

We started off with some Gaeng Khiaw Waan Gai (345 THB) green curry with chicken. This was very rich, copious amounts of coconut milk had obviously been added to this. The Fiance liked this tremendously but I thought this was a little too rich for my liking.

We also got the Gai Haw Bai Toey (345 THB) deep fried honey chicken wrapped in pandamus leaves.

The chicken was juicy, succulent and unexpectedly hugely portioned. This was lightly fragranced by the pandan leaves and delicately sweetened with honey.

The Tom Yaam Goong (355 THB) spiced soup of blue prawns was smaller in portion than I would have expected. This really was simply a one-person portion. The soup was well done though, appropriately spicy and sourish. We liked this very much.

We particularly liked the Moo Thod Gratiam Prikthai, Paad Prigsod (345 THB) pork stir-fried with garlic and coriander root. The dish was robust, spicy and aromatic, with chili adding heat and a heavy hand with the garlic lending fragrance.

If there's one gripe I have about the food here, it'd be that the food wasn't served piping hot. The food was relatively warm, but because it wasn't piping hot, the constant breeze cooled down the food too fast so unless you're wolfing down your food, you'll have to contend with tepid dishes.
