Crystal Jade Kitchen, Great World City
We had Sunday brunch here over the weekend. We actually wanted to go to Tien Court for dim sum but there were no parking lots available at the tiny limited Copthorne carpark and as you all well know by now, I hate waiting. So, we drove over to Great World City, with its large carpark and many restaurant choices, for brunch instead.
We started off with some Steamed Pork Rib with Black Bean Sauce ($3.50). These were very tender and juicy, albeit a tad oily and fatty, with salty preserved black beans lending flavour and cut chillis adding a little heat.
We also tried the Fried Rice with Diced Shrimp, Black Bean, Minced Garlic and Cut Chili in Hot Pot ($12.80). The fried rice was a little too crisp and dry, I felt like I was eating rice crispies cereal. We had to add a little soy-based gravy from the beansprouts dish to moisten this. Otherwise, it was flavoured fairly well, bold and lightly spiced, with melon and crunchy diced prawns adding texture.
The Fried Rice with Conpoy, Crabmeat and Egg White ($11.80) was much better, not too dry, but still well fried, with an even coating of oil and delicate flavouring on each discernible grain of rice. I like that although this particular style of fried rice is cooked with a lighter seasoning, it's still got sufficient flavour.
We also got our favourite-vegetable-of-the-month, Sauteed Beansprouts ($8), crunchy, refreshing and light.
We usually skip the appetizers (because they sometimes serve pickles which I don't like but would still have to pay for if I got it), but their Braised Peanuts ($2) are too yummy to pass up. These were soft, moist and flavoursome with the rich soy braising liquid infused into the peanuts.
