Indigo Pearl Room Service, Phuket, Thailand

We went to Phuket over the weekend. The trip couldn't have been scheduled at a worse time, because I'm right smack in the middle of doing my closing submissions. But, tickets and the hotel had been booked and paid for almost half a year earlier hence there was no cancelling the trip. So there we were, taking conference calls and working on the laptop from Phuket.

Anyways, we stayed at the Indigo Pearl, which is one of my favourite resorts in Phuket. I'd written about it previously in the Law Gazette, you can read about it here.

The food at the resort is amazing. From the buffet breakfast at Tin Mine to the warm apple crumble on the in-room dining menu, and the chocolate lava cake at Rivet Grill, they are ALL incredibly yummy.

Upon our arrival, the Fiance (yes, the BF is now "upgraded" to the Fiance - he'd proposed with fireworks in Phuket!) had to take a conference call so we ordered a couple of dishes from room service to tide us over till dinner. The Fresh Spring Rolls "Phuket Style" (235THB) is not that different from our local popiah. This was filled with crab, pork and radish strips, with beansprouts, lettuce, sweet tamarind sauce, chili puree and raw minced garlic.

All the ingredients are laid out separately with a make-your-own-rolls concept.-As expected, the Fiance practically licked up the raw garlic. Suffice it to say, he was a garlic breath-spewing and garlic gas churning machine for the next few days.

The Fiance wrapped this one up, all fat and plump. Apparently, Peranakans like their popiahs fat and big. This was substantial, but light enough so we didn't feel too stuffed afterwards

The Flat Rice Noodles (245THB) with sauteed mixed mushrooms, black fungus, garlic, sesame oil, and fish sauce-chili dressing was very delicious. The flat noodles were evenly coated with oil and fish sauce, chewy but soft. Black fungus, straw and oyster mushrooms provided texture and crunch to the dish.
