Cedele by The Bakery Depot, 8 Shenton Way

This was a quickie lunch at Cedele at 8 Shenton Way, formerly known as Temasek Tower. Cedele is a fast-growing chain of bakery cafes, serving mostly pastries, sandwiches and soups. They focus on wholesome, honest-to-goodness food. This is one place your arteries will thank you for eating at.

The Sandwich Set A ($10), which is a combination of a sandwich and a small soup, is really quite value-for-money. The Bratwurst Hoagie is a white bread, German sausage filled, topped with house-made sauerkraut, Bavarian mustard and ketchup. Substantial and filling.


The Sweetcorn and Chicken Soup was nicely spiced up with red peppers, creamy and comforting.

Hansang Korean Family Restaurant, Novena Square 2

The third floor of Novena Square 2 has been dubbed "Little Korea" due to the prevalence of Korean-centric shops. There's a Korean supermarket, at least 2 Korean restaurants and a whole bunch of hole-in-the-wall fashion shops selling clothes imported from Korea. We were there one evening and were enticed by the delicious smells wafting from Hansang Korean Family Restaurant . One part of the restaurant is reserved for those having Korean BBQ and the other part is solely for diners not having the Korean BBQ. This separateness is great because you don't walk out smelling of bulgogi. A unique dining feature here is that they actually serve an  Amuse Bouche of sorts. The trio of bite-sized bits heralded the start of a good meal. Golden Mile Food Centre

After 2 whole months of renovations, Golden Mile Food Centre (or more commonly known as the " Beach Road Army Market " because the 3rd and 4th floors are filled with army supply stores that our local national servicemen and reservist men frequent to stock up on army supplies) is finally open. Personally, I don't see any difference whatsoever to the popular hawker centre. Many of the shops here are marked by long snaking queues of patient fans and laminated or framed news writeups and TV-show endorsements. This is one of the more popular hawker centres in Singapore, and rightly so, there's a veritable range of noteworthy stalls to choose from. Char Kway Teow One of the more famous stalls here is the 91 Fried Kway Teow stall, which touts itself as a healthier alternative to the local favourite by using vegetable oil and refraining from the use of lard.
