Ah Loy Thai
Ah Loy Thai's recently undergone a facelift. It's now spiffier, with soft lighting and wicker chairs for a warm and inviting feel. They've got a couple of new items on the menu as well.
We started off with the Butter Calamari ($6.50), a new addition which was fabulous. The squid was cooked through but still tender, and doused in a soft buttery sauce, lightly spiced with paprika.
The Mixed Mushrooms ($5.30) was another new item. An assortment of enoki, straw, shimeiji and oyster mushrooms were lightly sauteed in an oyster sauce gravy, simple, but so delicious.
The Pandan Chicken ($7) was overcooked and burnt, with too many charred edges spoiling the otherwise tender and juicy insides.
I love the Tom Yum Soup with Prawns ($7) here, rich, bold, spicy and sour. Prawns are deshelled but with heads left on. Oyster mushrooms provide a luxe touch to the usual straw varieties.
