Prego

We wanted to use up my soon-to-be-expired Sushi Tei vouchers but as it turns out, there was a horrendous waiting time of up to 45 minutes for a table. Friends will know that I'm not one to wait patiently in line, and so, we went to Prego for dinner instead.

The BF got the Medaglioni di Manzo al Proscuitto ($42) Beef Medallion, seared pepper beef served with broccoli puree, sauteed spinach, rosemary jus, olive tapenade and rosa of Parma-proscuitto fino. This is the kind of "smelly" beef, robust and aged. I liked the well-seared sides, and the salty balance of the lively ham with the deep flavours of the beef. Didn't take to the broccoli puree though, it reminded me of mashed up peas.

We shared a starter of Carpaccio di Manzo con Rucola, Parmigiano e Concasse di Pomodori ($28) Beef Carpaccio with rocket salad, Parmesan shavings, organic tomato concasse and lemon oil citronette. This classic was marred by the too-sour tinge of the lemon oil. Olive oil with a dash of lemon juice would have been a much better dressing to the otherwise yummy appetizer.

I got the Tortelloni di Zucca al Burro e Salvia ($27) tortelloni filled with oven-roasted pumpkin, amaretto biscuits and mascarpone cheese served with butter and sage sauce, which was surprisingly light. Its golden buttery overtones were complemented by the subtle creaminess of pumpkin mash.

Opps, I forgot to make a reference to you dear Professor when talking about the "smelly" beef! It's right up your alley!
