Domino's Pizza Delivery

When Domino's Pizza returned to our sunny shores early this year, there were reports of hour-long waits for deliveries and complaints of jammed up hotlines.

It is such "teething problems" that I adhere to this policy of not patronising a newly-opened restaurant. I've found that it's better to wait till the establishment has smoothed over its operations, which usually takes from 6 months to a year, before I attempt a meal there. This way, when I review a restaurant, I'm not distracted by the kinks in service and inconsistent quality in food.

Domino's has since opened several outlets around the island and dealt with its initial operational issues. When I ordered a couple of pizzas the other day, service was efficient and delivery was fast. It took about 30 minutes for the pizzas to arrive, still piping hot. A bonus is the "30 Minutes Delivery Guarantee", in that you get a discount voucher for your next order if your pizzas don't arrive within half an hour.

We got the Extravaganza Thin Crust Pizza ($22.80 for a Regular 9"), with beef pepperoni, cabanossi, ground beef, onions, green pepper, mushrooms and olives.

The Extravaganza's for people who can't decide because it's got everything. Toppings were generous and crust was crisp and thin, like a biscuit. I liked that actual white button mushrooms were used instead of canned sliced champignons.

Enticed by the current New York Crust Promotion, we also got the Hawaiian Paradise New York Crust ($22.80 normal price for a Regular 9" but at $1.99 promotion price with a minimum regular pizza purchase) with smoked chicken breast, turkey ham and pineapple. The New York Crust was a little thicker than the thin crust, chewy and airy.

The smoked chicken breast was tender and moist, with the slightest of smoky flavours. Sweet pineapples added a juicy tang to the golden melted cheese and salty ham.
