Modesto's Restaurant, Vivocity

Ernie and I hung out over the weekend when the BF was busy at the gym. He needed to get Cranium, a really fun party board game, so we went to Toys"r"us at Vivocity. It was about 5pm when we finished at the toy store and we were looking for a place to have an early dinner. Ernie wanted some Italian food and suggested Modesto's. The restaurant was barely occupied when we arrived for dinner, and it had a wonderful expansive view of the Resorts World at Sentosa across the water.

From Sundays to Thursdays from 3pm onwards, Modesto's has a value-for-money Set Dinner at $48 nett for two persons, consisting a starter, 2 mains and 1 dessert.

We supplemented the set dinner with some Garlic Bread ($7.50). This really was done very well, with tiny garlic bits nicely caramelized and aromatic olives on the well toasted bread.

We chose the Appetizer of Crema di Funghi, Cream of Mushroom. This was very rich, creamy and woodsy, with discernible little chunks of shitake and white button mushrooms. One of the better ones around.

Our first main was the Spaghetti Aglio Olio, with chilli, garlic and olive oil. This was a tad oily, but flavoursome in its simplicity.

The second main was the Pizza Amatriciana, with pork bacon and onions. I really liked that the crisp onions provided some fresh sweetness to the smoky wood-fired thin crust pizza. This was commendable but I still prefer Ricciotti's pizzas.

We chose the Tiramisu, with mascarpone cheese, espresso, savoiardi fingers and coffee liquer, as our dessert. This is Modesto's signature dessert, and it's easy to see why. It was fluffy and light-as-air, rich in its coffee flavours without being cloying.

I didn't like the view of the old ferry terminal. It looked dated and boring. Maybe it looked better during your time, grampa...wahahaa!
