Sushi Tei, Playground @ Big Splash

I had some Sushi Tei vouchers which were about to expire, which explains the recent increase in our meals at Sushi Tei.

For dinner one night, we started off with the Salmon Mentaiyaki ($12), Grilled Salmon with Cod Roe. This was sweet, mushy and creamy. I felt it just made the already the rich flavour of salmon way too rich. The BF thought otherwise, he loved this.

We splurged and ordered a Lobster Mentaiyaki ($48), which was much better than the salmon, because lobster meat is naturally milder in flavour, so the sweet and creamy cod roe balanced the mildness of the lobster. This is like the Japanese version of the Phuket specialty, lobster thermidor.

I didn't really want the mixed vegetable tempura (mostly because I don't like brinjal and sweet potato), I only wanted shitake mushrooms. The staff were so obliging they indulged a special order of Shitake Mushroom Tempura ($8). These were lovely, woodsy, earthy and juicy mushrooms in a light thin tempura batter fried to a golden crisp.

I wanted to try the Black Sesame Ice-Cream ($3.20), which really is an acquired taste. I didn't like the heavy and savoury sesame after-taste, but the BF loved it.
