Artisan Boulangerie Co., Killiney Road

Artisan Boulangerie Co. (or "ABC") is quite the latecomer to the French-led wave of artisanal bakeries sprouting up all over our tropical island. While Tiong Bahru Bakery ("TBB") and Maison Kayser dominated the local palate in the early days of the wave, ABC has surreptitiously gained traction since its inception in the fall of 2013. In a short span of half a year, they've now got 5 stores littered around the island. I think, its winning formula is rooted in its price points. Their breads are a smidge cheaper than TBB. Or the insanely pricey French patisserie Paul for that matter. And while their baked goods aren't quite as refined as TBB, there's a certain charm in its rustic, wholesome approach to baking.

Think of ABC's Almond Croissant ($3.80) as the hulk to TBB's Captain America. A little clunky, a little uneven, but still well-flavoured; it had a moist interior that almost balanced out the burnt accents of its underside.

Purely as a matter of preference, I didn't quite take to the Sweet Ricotta Croissant ($3.80), but there was a nice symmetry in the sweet orange marmalade swirl and savoury ricotta.

The tarts are pretty decent too, like the classic Chocolate Tart ($6), semi-sweet, rich and sumptuous with a soft buttery base.

And the special of the day, a Hazelnut Pecan Chocolate Tart ($7), that was strictly for the sweet-toothed. It was just a little too saccharine for me.

I've been seeing this everywhere! do you fancy the price point is to counter cedele? the two seem very similar.

yeah yixiao at somelikeithaute also likes ABC.

while the price points do seem on par with cedele, i think ABC bakes with more elegance. I'd much rather buy from ABC than cedele.
