The Marmalade Pantry, Ion Orchard

I met up with Kang for our monthly meet-up at Ion as he had an eyebrow trimming appointment and a hair spa date in the same mall. Hahaa, he's going to kill me for writing this on my blog, but he is one of the most metrosexual men I know. Seriously. If you ever have a chance to look at his eyebrows, you'll agree that he has one of the most beautifully groomed eyebrows. Ever.

We were looking for a place to have brunch and chat, and The Marmalade Pantry, a casual larder for modern European cuisine, seemed an obvious choice for an upscale version of European comfort food. Along with its chic black interiors, and open atrium dining concept, The Marmalade Pantry oozes a sophisticated, grown-up vibe. The somewhat heavy foot traffic also ensures a steady stream of shoppers for diners to indulge in people-watching.

Kang got the Grain Fed Beef Cheek Guiness Pie ($26) with celeriac puree and a side serving of mesclun salad lightly dressed with olive and pepper.

The pie was filled with chunks of beef, robust and hearty, in a stew enlivened with the sweetness of celery.

I got the Truffled Field Mushroom Risotto ($22), with an al dente bite yet soft and creamy. Parts of this were a tad too salty though. Otherwise, the variety of mushrooms lent texture to the dish. This wasn't the best I've had, but it was substantial and had a rustic appeal.

Marmalade Pantry's desserts are a must-try. The Nutella ($4.20), a moist chocolate cupcake with Nutella frosting was so sinfully rich that Kang candidly said that he felt like killing himself after eating this. (yes, he's THAT vain)

The sticky date pudding there is quite good. Surprised you aren't finding these pictures revolting in your current state though.

Hello Ms Liang!

Don't like dates, not a fan of the uniquely sweet taste. Correspondingly, I don't like sticky date puddings.

The Professor's just jealous that he doesn't get to get truffles all the time because he spends his money buying premium organic whole foods for his family. Hahaa! :P

"Don't like dates, not a fan of the uniquely sweet taste." That ought to be a refreshing replacement for your fb introduction.

Wahahaa! I JUST realised that! Hmm, come to think of it, I did hate dating. So many toads out there.
