Yee Jia Chun, Telok Ayer Street

Yee Jia Chun specialises in Chinese soups, which means that one gets to indulge in a healthy and light lunch. They offer up to 8 different types of soup, including Lotus Root Pork Rib Soup, Pig's Stomach Soup (dispels wind), Herbal Chicken Soup with Ginseng (promotes circulation and revitalising), but they sell a variety of 4 soups each day. They also sell a variety of side dishes, vegetables and an assortment of rice (yam, pumpkin and white) to accompany the soups. This place is extremely popular with the CBD crowd, particularly women (because of its waist-line friendly lunch options), so it's sometimes difficult to find a table immediately. The good thing is that the turnover is very fast, because it's a place to eat and go, people seldom linger after a meal to eat.

I got the White Radish Soup ($4), clear, light and pure with the sweetness of sweet corn and carrots infused into the delicate soup. I liked it for its simplicity and pure elements.

My colleague got the Chinese Herbal Soup ($4.50), with earthy undertones due to the use of tangwei and ginseng. It was sweetened by a light chicken stock base, and grounded by the roots of the herbs.

We got a side dish of Sauteed Long Beans ($1.50) to share. This was a tad oily, but crunchy and tasty nonetheless.
