TCC, The Coffee Connoisseur
Being a lawyer necessarily means I've got to be able to manage my clients, good and bad. In a way, I guess you can say that I'm in the service industry. I won't lie, I've seen some horrendous clients who really make my blood boil. There's this saying, your client is sometimes your worst enemy. And it's totally true! But every once a while, there comes along a gem of a client. Who pays our bills on time, and is actually appreciative of our hard work. There's this one particular client who's beyond super nice. I mean, not only does he not quibble with our bills, he actually brings us delicious cakes whenever he comes to our office with a cheque to pay our bills.
This time, he brought us cakes from The Coffee Connoisseur (TCC), a coffee joint that serves up a fairly extensive food and cakes menu. This local coffee company wasn't so popular when it first started out sometime around 2003 as it focused mainly on coffee drinks. After a menu revamp and aggressive marketing a few years ago, it's now on par with established contenders, such as Coffee Club.
Lemon zest lends a refreshingly sour tinge to the classic cheesecake in the Classic Sour Cream Cheesecake ($5.40), topped off with a delightful strawberry.
The Cocoa L'Amour ($5.80) is a luxurious chocolate mousse cake decked with layers of dark, milk and white chocolate. This was light in texture but with a decadent edge.
The Mango Diva ($5.60) is a smooth and fruity mango shortcake adorned with berries and a marshmallow.
The D'TCC Ti-Rum-Misu ($5.80) infused with hints of rum and coffee is a fairly well done version of the Italian dessert.
The MatchAzuki Dream ($5.60), a unique combination of Japanese red bean and green tea, makes for a aromatic fluffy sweet.
The Strawberry Fantasy ($5.80), coated in dainty fresh cream, and layered with fluffy sponge, premium homestyle vanilla custard and strawberry chunks was my favourite.
The Classic Marble Cheesecake ($5.60), baked to a golden brown, sitting pretty on a rich chocolate base was simple, unpretentious and yummy.
Update 10 June 2011: TCC is now called "The Connoisseur Concerto"

I realize a fair bit of imagination is indeed essential to a skinny gourmet who needs to fit into bikinis. just a little unhealthy for the mind.
