SICC Gourmet @ Bukit

SICC's Bukit Pastry Corner recently underwent a revamp. It's been renamed called Gourmet @ Bukit and now sells chocolate truffles, Italian antipasto, cheeses, breads, exotic jams and chutneys, imported olive oils, vacuum-sealed coffee beans and macarons in addition to the usual cakes and pastries. For a while now, macarons have been the dessert du jour, and I took the chance to see how well the club's creations fare.

I got one of each flavour for variety. They had that delectable moist and slightly chewy texture, distinctive of well made macarons. I liked that they were semi-sweet, so I didn't get that overwhelmingly saccharine aftertaste.

Top to bottom: Strawberry, Coconut & Passionfruit, Raspberry

Vanilla (my favourite), Chocolate, Orange

Grape, Mango, Cherry

Coffee (strictly for caffeine lovers, this was quite bitter), Blackcurrant, Pistachio

The rainbow-hued Macarons ($12 for 6 pieces) sitting pretty in a box

This is way too hedonistic and indulgent. The Prof frowns on macarons.

Huh?? Why are macarons hedonistic?

Because most of it is air. Prof

Okay, you have a point. Considering the entire macaron is finished in one mouthful, and yet costs $2, it's quite a pricey dessert.
