Prego

We go to Prego about once a month, so we've pretty much tried most of the items on the ala carte menu. We usually change it up by ordering from the set menu instead as the offerings are updated fairly regularly, but it's been stagnant the past couple of months. So, we decided to order from the ala carte menu instead.

The BF was staying away from carbs, which meant that pastas, risottos and pizza were no-nos, so he ordered the Costoletta di Maiale Gratinata alla Valdostana ($34) Seasoned Pork Chops with garlic and crushed pepper topped with ham, Fontina cheese gratin served with carrot-potato puree and sauteed spinach. He liked this. The pork chops were seasoned with a melange of classic Italian herbs, I tasted thyme and oregano. Fragrant, juicy and tender.

I got my usual, the Risotto del Giorno ($35) daily special with 4 Cheeses and Bacon, which was creamy, cheesy but was kept surprisingly light, with crisp bacon lending a smoky, aged saltiness to the dish. The risotto was well done as usual, soft, but with each grain ever so discernible with a little bite left.
