Lau Pa Sat Festival Market

The Professor, Mr J and I went out for a quick lunch at Lau Pa Sat because Mr J was completely swamped with work. We usually steer clear of this tourist trap, but we had to go somewhere really near the office because the drizzle was beginning to look threateningly like a downpour.

Contrary to popular belief, The Professor does eat healthy stuff. Sometimes. Okay, okay, it's more like every once a blue moon. Both of us got fish soup from one of the more popular stalls here. I got the Sliced Fish Soup ($3.50), which wasn't half bad. Not that I was expecting a very high standard anyways. At least the soup wasn't reeking of MSG. The fish was fairly fresh, but tasteless. It was obviously treated with milk (to remove any fishy odor), there were milk strands on the fish.

The Professor got his usual, Fried Fish Soup ($3.50), with condensed milk added. He eats this like a Teochew, by dumping his entire bowl of steamed white rice into the soup. The fried fish chunks fared better than the normal fresh fish slices. Any fishy odor was removed by the deep frying.

The stall's facade. It usually does brisk business, mostly because many females patronise the stall for a healthier lunch option.

Mr J also got something soupy to warm up his insides, Soupy Minced Meat Noodles ($3.50), which wasn't too bad either. The soup base wasn't laden with MSG and the ingredients were plentiful.
