Kheng Nam Lee Teochew Porridge
Beeps, Mr Harvest-The-Crops, the BF and I drove out of the CBD to have lunch. We'd wanted to try the open-for-lunch-on-weekdays-only-place, Siak Ann, along Havelock Road to have some Sambal Fried Fish, but it was closed, so we headed further along the road to Kheng Nam Lee to have Teochew Porridge instead.
The Braised Peanuts ($3) were good, soft but not mushy and flavourful with all the aromatic soy accents seeped into the nuts.
The Steamed Egg ($3) was also good. It was smooth, wobbly and custard-like.
The Minced Pork ($3) is one of the must-trys here. It's chewy, spicy and robust.
The Braised Pork Belly ($3) is also another yummy dish, with its discernible sliver of fat wedged between layers of tender meat in a rich soy and oyster sauce broth.
The Omelette ($3) was ordinary fare, served at room temperature and a little limp.
I'm not a fan of this but my colleagues are, Preserved Vegetables ($3). It was crunchy, slightly salty and quite refreshing.
We also got another vegetable dish, Sauteed Chinese Spinach ($3), classic and simply done.
The Fried Potato with Tomato Sauce ($3) was another classic homestyled dish. The tomato sauce was a little watered down though.
The Fried Fish ($3) was also good, fresh, chunky and delicate.
