Thai Noodle House

Thai Noodle House is one of the better Thai restaurants around. It's run by Thais, so you know you're getting the real deal. Although some of the dishes are a little watered down for the local/Caucasian palate, most of the dishes are still fairly authentic. Sometimes, during a lull period, you can hear a little Thai music wafting through the kitchen. The restaurant is homely, like a dining room of a Thai friend's house, and prices here are similar to most cze char places.

We ordered the Sweet Potato-Leaf with Thai Chili Paste ($8), which was delicious. Vegetables were blanched just right, not too wilted and preserving its brilliant jade-green colour. Loved the sweetish, prawnish, chili gravy.

We also ordered the Thai mainstay of Stir-Fried Pork with Thai Chili Paste, Onion and Basil Leaf ($12), which was standard fare but still yummy. Loved the minty fresh accent of the basil herb.

Of course we got the Tom Yum Soup with Prawns ($9.50). The soup was disappointingly watered down (I noticed a fair bit of Caucasians dining so the kitchen could have watered down their spice levels to suit the Caucasian palate), but the prawns were sweet, fresh and plentiful.

The Thai Blachan Fried Rice with Chicken ($8.50) was one of the better dishes. The rice was fried with a slightly spicy and peppery belachan paste, which danced on the tongue.

I ordered my favourite Beef Noodle Soup ($7), with sliced beef, minus coriander and beansprouts. I love the rich beef broth, thin slices of tender beef and silky rice noodles.

This is one of the few places that offers Lemongrass Tea ($2.50), which we love. These were subtly sweetened and absolutely refreshing.

A little side note for those who drive: Please be advised of available parking at the basement carpark of Coronation Plaza, instead of along the Coronation Road because parking wardens do check the area regularly. I got a parking fine once which made my dinner at Thai Noodle House extremely expensive and painful.
