Thai Express, Holland Village

Since the first Thai Express outlet opened about 6 years ago, it's expanded into more than 20 outlets across the island with more than 30 outlets spanning the globe. The success of this Thai eatery is largely due to its very quick and fairly affordable Thai fare that's relatively authentic. Even though the restaurant was full, our food arrived barely 5 minutes after our orders were taken. Thai Express is like Thai-style fast-food served in a comfortable cheery orange environment.

The BF got the BBQ Pla ($14.90), barbecued dory fish fillet with spicy chili padi and lime dip. The dory fish fillet was fragrant, crispy on the outside but soft and moist on the inside without being oily.

The Phat Kung Woon Sen ($9.90), prawns stir-fried with glass noodles, was a tad too sweet, but after adding the chilli flakes and chopped nuts, this was really quite yummy. I liked that they were generous with the prawns.

The Khao Ob Nam Leab Phak ($9.90) vegetarian olive fried rice was our attempt to make a healthier choice. This was smoky and moist, with chopped long beans and green leafy vegetables adding crunch to the aromatic rice.

Their Tom Yum Kung ($6.90), tom yum soup with prawns is one of the hottest around, with the plentiful use of chilli padi. This deceptively clear soup really packs a spicy punch.
