La Strada

We were dining at La Strada, our favourite Italian trattoria, when we bumped into a couple friend of ours. It appears that the friends we bring to La Strada have all become fans of this cosy neighborhood affiliate of the Les Amis group. It's not surprising, as La Strada reliably churns out hearty but refined Italian comfort food, and service is consistently warm and efficient.

The pastas are homemade, and invariably al dente, the Linguine alle Vongole ($28), with flat pasta tossed in white wine sauce, and brightened with chilli and garlic, was swimming in a bounty of fresh clams.

The Spaghetti al Frutti di Mare ($38), studded with a melange of seafood; clams, squid, scallops, fish, prawns and mussels, was tossed in a tangy and subtly spicy pomodoro sauce.

The Pappardelle al Iberico Secreto ($35) was a luscious and saucy, with plentiful garlic weaved into the brown meaty gravy.  A most unusual and excellent pasta option, so be sure to try this before they take it off the menu mid-May.

For meat-lovers, the Ossobucco ($38) is highly recommended; it balanced the full-bodied fork-tender braised veal shank with mellow saffron risotto. This was supposed to be topped with gremolata, but I asked that it be held off (one of the components is parsley...yikes!)
