Bacha Coffee

========================

We were inducted into the wonderful confections of Bacha Coffee by King&Mei, who'd gifted us a couple of their pistachio and lemon tarts while we were sheltering in place. We've never really been keen on tarts, but the ones from Bacha Coffee blew us away. In fact, the tarts were so incredible, we went right out and bought out a whole bunch of their pastries.

There, we discovered their croissants. I'm a purist, for the most part, when it comes to croissants, but the flavoured ones at Bacha Coffee are truly exceptional. So much so I make an exception for their kaya, raspberry, pistachio, comte, and mushroom ones whenever I pop into the store to pick up the day's supply of desserts. Yes, u read right: it's insane how much bread we consume (well, it probably explains the burgeoning number on our weighing scale 😭)

That said, we've never had their coffee, because the $9 (minimum) price tag is too high-SES for a coffee noob like moi (you'd probably scoff, but I'm actually quite content to drink those $1 nespresso capsules) #thetrialsandtribulationsofthelowSES

Besides, the perpetual snaking line of teenage influencer-wannabes waiting to get into the cafe is off-putting enough of a deterrent to any dine-in impetus.

A must-try (oh'ell, everything hereinbelow are must-tries), the Strawberry Pistachio Tart ($9) is as delicious as it is gorgeous. Piled with strawberries galore, the pistachio cream is a wonderful grounding balance.

This is, imo, the best Lemon Tart ($9) ever. I've never liked tarts, and lemon tarts most of all, but these ones at Bacha Coffee flecked with lime zest for an added dimension, have forever changed my opinion on lemon tarts. They're nuanced and perfectly composed and so wonderfully refreshing it almost doesn't feel indulgent indulging in this.

Purely as a matter of preference (because I love kaya-anything), the Kaya Croissant ($3) is my pick of the veritable multitude of sweet croissants.

The Raspberry Croissant ($3) is a close second, for its sweet-piquant symmetry.

The Pistachio Croissant ($3) is a cannot-miss for pistachio lovers.

It's a good thing that the croissants at Bacha Coffee are petite-ish sized, because we've been known to devour six of these Butter Croissants ($3) in one sitting. They're remarkably buttery and heavenly and crazy addictive.

Comte is The Husband's choice fromage, and it's no surprise his favourite is the Comte Croissant ($5), the nutty cheesiness a perfect foil to the rich buttery overtones of the bread.

The Mushroom Croissant ($5), lined with a truffled mushroom duxelles, is the other savoury option, and absolutely superb.
