Nan Hwa Chong Fish-Head Steamboat Corner

We wanted something really light and soupy so we headed over to Nan Hwa Chong to have some Red Snapper Fish Steamboat ($20). We added extra Cabbage ($3), Enoki Mushrooms ($3) and Fried Yams ($3).  I love how light and naturally sweet the soup base is. No artifical, milk-enhanced cloyingly sweet shortcuts here.

Hansang Korean Family Restaurant, Novena Square 2

The third floor of Novena Square 2 has been dubbed "Little Korea" due to the prevalence of Korean-centric shops. There's a Korean supermarket, at least 2 Korean restaurants and a whole bunch of hole-in-the-wall fashion shops selling clothes imported from Korea. We were there one evening and were enticed by the delicious smells wafting from Hansang Korean Family Restaurant . One part of the restaurant is reserved for those having Korean BBQ and the other part is solely for diners not having the Korean BBQ. This separateness is great because you don't walk out smelling of bulgogi. A unique dining feature here is that they actually serve an  Amuse Bouche of sorts. The trio of bite-sized bits heralded the start of a good meal. Ang Mo Kio Central Market & Food Centre, 724 Ang Mo Kio Ave 6

How we stumbled upon this underrated but outstanding hawker centre was fortuitous. So, I've been hankering for soupy braised duck noodles (yes, there's such a thing!) recently; it's been yonks since I last had it (also, yes, I do have the most random cravings). It's not a dish widely available or easily found anywhere, but a little research turned up this little gem of a braised duck + kway chap stall in Ang Mo Kio Central Market & Food Centre . So, post-duck noodles, we waddled around said hawker centre, which led to the discovery of a treasure trove of hawker offerings. My picks are listed in descending preference as follows. Braised Duck A must-try, the Duck Noodle Soup  ($4) at Ban Chuan was exceptional.
