SICC Bukit Pastry Corner

Image
This was another post-workout sweet treat from the Bukit Pastry Corner. We got the American Cheesecake ($3.00), delicately rich cream cheese on a layer of crumbly cookie base with a plump juicy strawberry on top. We also bought the Tiramisu ($3.60), a fluffy and light-as-air confection with the distinct flavour of intense coffee and kahlua, and mascarpone cream. Bukit Pastry Corner Singapore Island Country Club, Bukit location 240 Sime Road Singapore 578774 Tel: 6461 7439 Open on Mondays to Fridays from 11am to 10pm, Saturdays and Sundays from 8am to 10pm

Golden Mile Food Centre, Bao Ma Curry Fish Head

Image
Ever since Ernie and I tried and fell in love with the fish head curry at the Bao Ma Curry Fish Head at Golden Mile Food Centre , I've been wanting to bring the BF there. So, one sweltering afternoon, we braved the weather to eat at the hawker centre well known to national servicemen (it's "affectionately" called the "Army Market" to the local men as they replenish their army supplies here). As usual, the Curry Fish Head ($15) was amazing. The fish was fresh and flaky and the curry was piquant and spicy. It helped that the price was also eye-poppingly cheap. We got a few side dishes for variety. The Luncheon Meat with Potato in Tomato Sauce ($2) is a dish we always order if we see an economic rice stall selling it. It's a dish that unfailingly brings us back to our childhood, it was a mainstay in both our primary school canteens and most of our maids' home-cooked meals. We got a few greens as well, Sauteed Broccoli and Sauteed Green ...

Carl's Jr, Playground @ Big Splash

Image
Carl's Jr is one of the few fast food joints that I would patronise. Their burgers are substantial and meaty, unlike the teeny, tiny, 3-bites-and-it's-gone kind that some other fast food restaurants try to pass off as a burger. Granted, it's also more expensive, but the extra dollars are well worth their juicy and plump patties. The outlet at Big Splash is its first and only drive thru in Singapore. A huge plus point is that it's also open 24 hours. Perfect for when those late-night / early morning hunger pangs strike. I love their Fried Zucchini ($3.70), crispy little moulds of juicy zucchinis in a lightly herbed and spiced breaded coating. The BF got his favourite, the Western Bacon Cheeseburger, ThickBurger Edition ($11.50), with a thick slab of 100% Angus beef, salty bacon, onion ring and melted cheese. Decadent, artery-clogging and absolutely yummy. Carl's Jr 902 East Coast Parkway Blk C, #01-14/15/16/17 Playground @ Big Splas...

Birthday Surprise

Image
This was a birthday surprise from Mr Harvest-the-Crops. I nearly got a heart attack by the surprise though, he'd enlisted Beeps' help to get me back to the office, on the pretext that The Boss was looking for me urgently and I was in trouble because I'd apparently messed up a file. (For the record, I've yet to get CC mad at me for anything and I'm not about to start.) So it was with trepidation that I gingerly went into the meeting room (supposedly to face the music), and a relief when it turned out to be a birthday surprise. This was an American Cheesecake , very light and moist, so delicate in flavour that even a colleague who's a self-professed non-lover of cheesecake lapped up her share happily. I really am blessed with the best colleagues. Thanks you all for being the absolute sweetest. And for nearly giving me a heart attack.

SICC Bukit Room

Image
We went to the Bukit Room for dinner after the gym. They take their last orders at 10pm, and we were the last diners there that night so we pretty much had the restaurant all to ourselves. We ordered the Braised Ee-fu Noodles with Mushrooms and Chives ($12) was braised in a delicate but rich stock, with chives lending a fresh overtone and beansprouts adding crunch to the dish. We really liked this. The Fish Maw with Seafood in Thick Soup ($20) was eggy and luscious. I loved the fresh fish maw and fresh and sweet seafood. We lapped this up happily. After the BF painstakingly removed all the spring onions, of course. We also got the Braised Lo-Han Vegetables with Beancurd ($10), was chock-full of ingredients in a lovely brown oyster-sauce gravy. The Wok-Fried Beef Tenderloin with Black Pepper ($16) was soft and tender without that artificial tenderiser aftertaste. Siang Hee Restaurant

Image
Siang Hee 's one of our go-to restaurants for cheap and good cze char. Today, we ordered the San Lou Hor Fan ($8), slippery sheets of rice noodles with crunchy beansprouts, spring onions and fresh and smooth fish slices in a delicate gooey gravy. We also ordered the Marmite Pork ($8), tender pork in a sticky and sweet coating. This is an absolute must-try here. The Claypot Beancurd ($8) is a filled-to-the-bream serving of sliced pork, mushrooms, snow peas, green veggies, crunchy carrots, fresh prawns, fish slices and silky beancurd. Red Pig Original Charcoal Korean Restaurant

Image
I've said before that I'm not a fan of Korean cuisine in general. However, it was Mr Motormouth's farewell lunch and he wanted Korean food, so a bunch of us trooped over to this little nook of an eatery. The food at Red Pig is really quite authentic, being run by Koreans. The menu is decidedly small and there is a different menu for lunch and dinner. Charcoal Korean table-BBQ is only available for dinner. As usual, Side Dishes ( banchan ) are complimentary and refillable. They usually have about 6 varieties of sides for lunch, but they'd run out of 2 of the more popular sides that afternoon, so we only got 4 types. We particularly liked the Seasoned Spinach ( sigumchi namul ), parboiled and served cold, lightly dressed with sesame and soy for flavour. The Cold Tofu was another hit, smooth and refreshing, with a touch of spice from the kimchi-based sauce slathered over it. The Stir-Fried Dried Anchovies (the BF says it's called "Myulchi ...
