The Green Bar recently opened its third outlet in Alexandra, following successful ventures in Collyer Quay and Millenia Walk. By the looks of the long snaking queues and lunch-time full-house, it appears that the Southern offshoot is just as popular as the ones in the CBD and Marina downtown areas.
While they haven't yet rolled out their build-your-own-salad option, they do offer a tantalizing array of innovative salad options. All gorgeously coloured, and laden with luxurious ingredients to tempt even the vegetable-averse, their salads are quite simply, delicious.
A new addition, the Smoked Duck Mango Tango ($13.90), studded roasted potatoes, red capcisums, beetroot, clementines, mangoes and smoked duck slices, is nestled on a bed of watercress and mesclun, dressed with a citron vinaigrette and topped off with microgreens and cashews.
The North Indian influence is evident in the Tandoor Tandoor ($11.90), with hunks of succulent tandoori chicken saddled with cherry tomatoes, roasted rosemary potatoes, boiled chickpeas, fresh onions, and drizzled with a honeyed yoghurt dressing.
An oldie but goodie, the Green Bar Caesar ($9.90) is given a twist with apples, anchovies, alongside classics like crunchy croutons and roasted rosemary potatoes. A lighter, healthier honey yoghurt substitutes the calorie-heavy traditional caesar salad dressing, and a luscious soft boiled egg provide punch.
The Italian inspired Sexy Prosciutto ($13.90), my favourite, is dotted with poached pears and sweet cherry tomatoes on a bed of mesclun, topped with swathes of silky prosciutto ribbons, showered with grated parmesan (I'd switched out the goat's cheese because I ain't no fan), and drizzled with EVOO and a piquant balsamic vinegar.
The Pork Basil Salad ($13.90), a leafy variant of the Thai minced pork dish, with lettuce, red onions, cherry tomatoes, potatoes, carrots, and coriander leaves, and dressed in a sweet Thai chilli sauce, was punchy and robust.
The Candied Bacon Salad ($12.90), with the bacon switched out for chicken, was dotted with with an oozy egg, cherry tomatoes, red onions, garlic croutons, and a spinach-watercress-lettuce mix.
