Trisara Sunday Champagne Brunch, Phuket, Thailand

It's been a long time since we indulged in brunch, and we were told not to miss out on Trisara's "legendary" Sunday Brunch (1,990 Baht per person for brunch only). While the selection at Trisara wasn't mind-boggling, it sure made up for the lack of variety with astoundingly high quality. All of their dishes were so good on their own that they could have been served up straight from the ala carte menu.

Also, I loved that Trisara offered bite-sized portions of everything, just so their guests get to sample the entire buffet spread.

Oh and get this, a roving pair of masseuse went round giving free head and shoulder massages to the diners. How's that for 6-star pampering?

A mix-and-match Salad Counter, with arugula, romaine lettuce, red cabbage, cherry tomatoes, sliced almonds, pine nuts, julienned carrots and beetroot. Olive oil and thousand island were the duo of dressings available for your salads.

While I'm not a fan of Smoked Salmon because of its tendency towards fishiness, this was admittedly fresh and devoid of any fishy smells or taste.

Both seafood on ice, the Chilled Tiger Prawns and Chilled Lobster were super fresh and sweet.

My favourite kind of cold cuts! There were 3 varieties of delicatessen, Salami Nepoli, Parma Ham (best of all, with its silky salty ribbons) and Coppa Parma.

Fruit Cleansers are a great way to detox and start your day right with a super dose of fibre and vitamins, Carrot, Ginger & Honey Blended and Cucumber, Celery & Fennel Juice

We'll move on to the appetizers, all served in tiny little saucers or cups, so you get to try everything! They were all delicious, as it was really a matter of preference as to which ones I liked. Orange, Capsicum and Radish Salad.

Goat's Cheese and Tomato Gelette, with a light drizzle of aged balsamic for a piquant lift.

Golden Bag stuffed with Vegetables (aka vegetable wanton) in a pool of sweet Thai chilli sauce.

Spicy Tuna Salad Cucumber Roll, very cool and refreshing.

Smoked Duck Rolls with Hoisin

Mini Beetroot, Goat's Cheese and Walnut Tartlet

Bocconcini Skewer, with a cherry tomato and ricotta cheese with olive oil.

Lamb Chermoula with Eggplant Salad, very Mediterranean-influenced, but not my thing. Don't like lamb and don't like eggplant.

I super loved the Mini Caesar Salad, served very quaintly in a tiny glass. The poached chicken breast was moist, tasty and this was just the perfect size for a light bite.

The Shrimp and Tropical Fruit Salad, also very refreshing, with mango cubes complementing the sweet prawns, and capsicum providing a light kick.

I really liked the Mango Sushi Roll, sweet juicy mangoes and soft moist Japanese sushi rice, what's not to like?

In comparison to the mango sushi roll above, I didn't quite like the Mango Avocado Timbele, mostly because I don't like avocado. Too much of a mushy powdery texture, I'd feel like I'm eating baby powder.

Oh the Sesame Crushed Seared Tuna with lime and ginger soy dressing was yummylicious. I went back for seconds.

While i liked the quails egg in the Nicoise Salad, I wasn't a fan of the rest of the other ingredients.

Assorted Breadsticks, crunchy, savoury and a very nice snack if you're peckish.

My favourite station of all, the Pasta and Risotto Station. You can pick and choose the different types of pasta, sauces and fillings, and best of all, they're all in tasting portions so you don't get filled up.

We all loved the Porcini Mushroom Risotto, aromatic, al dente and thoroughly flavoursome. Super yums.

The Tomato Basil Fettuccine was also super well done, so simple but so comfortingly good.

The boys' favourite counter, the Carving Station with Red Wine Sauce, Dijon Mustard, and Apple Sauce.

The Ham was very good, moist and tender, with a fragrant herb coating to balance the saltiness of the cured pork.

The Potato Gratin was another favourite, soft scalloped potatoes layered with bechamel sauce and covered in cheese and baked till golden brown, all of us went back for third helpings of this.

The Roast Chicken was also fantastic, succulent juicy meat with thyme and oregano providing flavouring.

The Grilled Vegetables were seasoned simply with salt and pepper to bring out their natural sweetness. I loved the baby carrots and zucchini.

Trisara offers a basic selection of cheeses on the Cheese Plate, easy for the conservative cheese eater.

The Fruit Plate had standard fruits such as watermelon, papaya and pineapple, and less conventional ones such as pomelo.

Onto the desserts section of the brunch! The Raspberry Macaron Tartlet is admittedly gorgeous, but a little underwhelming.

We all loved the Chocolate Tart, moist rich dark chocolate with a buttery crust.

The Creme Brulee was commendable, not too sweet and the custard was nice and smooth.

I'm not a fan of orange-based desserts as i find that they tend to be a bit too sweet, and so, while some of the guys liked the Orange Mousse Cup, I wasn't a fan.

The Lemon Meringue had a pleasant refreshing tinge to it.

The American Cheesecake was well done, smooth, dense, balanced.

The Fruit Tart was also well done, the trio of berries were, unliked most other places, sweet.

The Opera Cake was undisputedly the best dessert of all, nuanced, bittersweet and sinfully delicious.

Baked Alaska is also not my thing, but the whipped cream was really quite fluffy.
