Coffee Club, Market Street

You know, some people say that you make your last batch of true friends in the university before you start work. I guess it's true to a certain extent, because it is a different ballgame altogether in the workplace. But, I have to say that I have made some amazing friends from work. True friends from work are few and far between, but they are there. You'll just have to be open to forming new friendships.

I had lunch with a colleague on the last day of her notice period. It's so funny that we never really talked or hung out very much until her last day. She's one of the sweetest and most soft-spoken girls I have had the pleasure of knowing. She belongs in that category of girls that guys want to bring home to mommy and other girls can't help but like.

We went to Coffee Club at Market Street for lunch. Although Coffee Club sounds like a predominantly coffee joint, it is the gourmet, pub-grub food that draws in the lunch-time crowd. Coffee Club serves arguably one of the best food at a place that primarily serves coffee. They also have a wide range of desserts, the value-for-money, humongous muddy mud pie here is also to die for.

We started off with Calamari Rings ($8.30) with tartare sauce. This was fairly well done, the squid was soft and chewy without being rubbery. However, the calamari could have been a teensy bit softer and the batter could have been a wee bit less thick.


The Bacon Wrapped Chicken Fritters ($9.90) with cheese and tarragon mayo sounded a little too decadent, but it turned out that the salty bacon was needed to provide flavour to the otherwise dry chicken breast meat.


I ordered my favourite, the Country Pie ($10.50), chicken chunks, root vegetables like diced carrots, mushrooms, celery with lashings of creamy mashed potato, topped with savoury melted mozzarella cheese. This is THE BEST country pie ever, there's no where else (in Singapore that I know) that serves anything similar to this.


She got the Chicken Lasagne ($12.50) layers of pasta and chicken bolognaise with Neapolitan sauce. This was robust, hearty and rich. Crisp peppery rucola leaves cut through the otherwise heavy and rich pasta.
