Prego
We don't eat at Prego as often now, ever since it underwent a revamp and morphed into a Sunday Market-style trattoria. Before the transformation, Prego already had a fairly small-ish menu. Now that the menu's a lot, a lot more limited, we've pretty much tried almost everything on the menu. I think I prefer the previous menu for its more extensive choices.
That said, the set meals are a lot more affordable now, with a usual pricetag of about 50 bucks for 4 courses for dinner. Also, there's an anti-pasti counter with a mind-boggling array of daily specials made fresh on the spot.
I was craving some Italian Prosciutto di Parma ($16), and Prego's antipasti board was as fresh and authentic as it gets. I loved the silky pink ribbons and their delectably pungent saltiness. There was a diced salsa that was crisp, tangy and refreshing at the same time. This paired perfectly with the parma ham.
The 4-course dinner set menu ($55) consists of dishes rotated from from the main menu, albeit in a sampling size. The Penne in Arrabbiata Sauce was done to an al dente finish, with a fresh kickass spicy tomato sauce that was so simple but so delicious.
The Rotisserie Chicken with rosemary, garlic roasted potatoes & rapini was incredibly flavoursome and aromatic, but unfortunately way too salty. That said, the herb mixture marinade was intoxicatingly fragrant, and the chicken was grilled to a moist, tender smokiness.
The House Signature Tiramisu was a welcome respite from the saltiness of the chicken. Equal parts bitter and equal parts sweet, this was a perfect balance of coffee liquer, marscapone, and sugar.
