Selera Cuppage Food Corner

Amid the gleaming malls of Orchard Road, Cuppage Plaza sticks out like a old, familiar, worn-out shoe. It's a throwback to the 80's and the shopping centre has a somewhat nostalgic charm about it. The food stalls here are consequently one of the cheapest places to dine at along the burnished stretch of Orchard Road.

We usually have a relatively good cze char meal here, but it was unfortunate that on the one recent occasion we ate here, the food turned out below par. Most of the dishes weren't fresh. In fact, they tasted rancid, which was just unforgivable.

The Claypot Beancurd ($10) was so not worth the price. Apart from the vegetables and mushrooms, the beancurd pieces tasted rancid. Even the oyster sauce gravy wasn't enough to mask the staleness of the beancurd.

The Onion Omelette ($5) was probably the only dish that was passable. Sweet browned onions cut through the slight saltiness of the egg.

The Ipoh Mushroom Kway Teow ($5) was just awful. The prawns were mushy, char siew tasted artificial and rubbery, mushrooms were spongy and sourish and the gravy was overtly starchy
