It's been eons since I last ate at Kazbar, which used to be one of our favourite jaunts for lunch when I first started practice. It'd be a carnivorous meat-fest everytime we were there (brilliant because the Atkins was all the rage then), and their lamb chops were out of this world. After a friend recalled lunches of the past during a particularly nostalgic moment, I thought a revisit was very much in order.

I'm glad to report that the food's just as good as I remembered. Everything we had is a cannot-miss must-try. Note though, that the food, and service, can get choppy when the restaurant/bar gets crowded. The tip is to dine on a weekday night for dinner. The restaurant is notably less crowded, and a (huge) bonus: parking is significantly cheaper!

The Mixed Cold Mezzeh ($24) with hummus (chickpea puree with tahini, garlic and lemon juice), moutabel (smoked eggplant with tahini and lemon juice), mohammarah (roasted nuts, breadcrumbs, harissa, cumin and lemon juice), babaghanoush (grilled eggplant, tomato, capsicum, onion, parsley and pomegranate) and tabouleh salad (tomatoes, onions, parsley, mint, lemon juice and olive oil), served with freshly toasted pita bread is a recommended starter. It was clean, it was light, it was nuanced, and it was totally refreshing.

The Prawn Kebab ($32), glazed with a mildly spiced seasoning, was grilled to a juicy perfection, and laid on a bed of peppery rocket leaves for contrast.

The piece de resistance, their signature Lamb Chops ($26) was deeply flavoursome, having bathed in the complex marinade for hours on end, and imbued with a wonderful smoky accent. Though well-done, the ribs remained nicely moist and tender. The homemade harissa was a fantastic complement, with its roasted pepper and garlicky elements.

The Shish Taouk ($19), chicken hunks steeped in garlic, yoghurt and lemon, was perky and succulent.

The Iranian Joojeh Kebab ($19), grilled chicken chunks treated with saffron and lemon juice, was luscious and bright.
