Jumbo Seafood, Dempsey

Did I ever tell you that I love crabs? To me, a perfect end to a work day would involve dabao-ing a whole crab to myself and slowly picking my way through it in front of the telly with my favourite cable TV shows. What can I say? I'm a simple woman with simple wants. In fact, my facebook profile actually says that my favourite activities are eating (crabs in particular) and watching TV. And napping, of course. I remember this one time, during a Chinese oral exam, an examiner once asked me what my hobbies were,  and I actually answered: eating crabs and napping and watching the telly because I get so little of these as a busy mugging student. He laughed and then gave me a distinction.

It was a particularly gruelling day, and I was badly in need of comfort food. So it was off to Jumbo for a simple meal of green veggies and crabs.

The Sauteed Baby Kailan, simply stir-fried in garlic, was nicely crunchy and homestyled. A great set up to the crabby main.

The Steamed Crabs with Egg White was delicious in its simplicity. Meaty,  fresh and delicately sweet flesh barely seasoned, perfumed with aromatic Chinese hua tiao wine and tang kwei, steamed to perfection with a thin layer of smooth egg white custard. Teochews or people who like delicate flavours will love this.
