Peperoni Pizzeria, Greenwood Ave

We'd previously dined at Peperoni's sister outlet at Binjai Park, and despite the horrendous parking issue, discovered that it's one casual Italian joint where you can get good Italian food late at night. We were hit with an Italian food craving after working out at the gym late at night and were in our sweaty gym gear, and bound by the perimeters of a casual, no dress code policy that allowed for sweaty gym gear and late-night dining hours, the choice was fairly obvious. We headed to the dining enclave of Greenwood Ave instead of Binjai Park, where the first outlet of Peperoni was opened. It's a lot nearer the gym and our home than the one at Binjai Park.

The Portobello Mushroom ($18), a starter dish of a juicy whole portobello, breadcrumbed and fried, then topped off with a chunky chicken and red wine-infused brown gravy was delicious. Peppery rocket leaves help lift the slightly heavy elements of the gravy.I prefer this version of the portobello starter, the "Niru" styled one was too spicy for me. The Fiance preferred the "Niru", for obvious reasons.


The Minestrone Soup ($8) was well done, rich in flavour and depth. The clear tomato based broth was also generously filled with mixed vegetables.


I loved the Prawn Risotto ($24) with crunchy zucchini and plentiful sliced garlic in a tangy starchy tomato sauce. The generous helping of prawns were sweet and fresh, and not in an overly alkaline crunchy way. Risotto was done al dente, soft but with the tiniest bit of bite. If I had a gripe about this dish, it would have been that there was too much garlic. I like my garlic as an accent, not omnipresent as a huge pungent slice in every bite.


The Manzo ($21), penne tossed in a beef with peppers and onions brown gravy was like a pasta version of our local cze char beef stir-fried with oyster sauce dish.Very Asian influenced, and it was not something we particularly liked because we weren't expecting such local flavours. It would have been nice to have been informed, through the menu description, that this was an Asian creation. We were in the mood for a taste of Italy, and definitely ordered the wrong dish for it. That said, if we had been in a mood for something different, this would have been a good dish. Beef was robust and tender, with peppers and onions cutting through the rich brown gravy.

Why did buns prefer the niru thing? spicy kimchi flavour?

spicy yes, kimchi-tasting, no. The "niru" style was a chunky arriabiata sauce.

Yeah I like kimchi. It's difficult to find good kimchi in Singapore though.
