Sushi Tei, Paragon

Sushi Tei's relocated from the old wing at Paragon to the newer wing, where Fitness First used to be. It's now a much larger space, with dark woods and cozy booth seats, resulting in a very modern but luxurious feel.

We had a late lunch/early dinner there over the weekend. Sushi Tei is infamous for not accepting any reservations, so most people end up waiting in line during the meal peak periods. But the beauty of not having kids is that we don't exactly have a routine to follow. That means we have the freedom to watch movies till late, sleeping only at the wee hours of the morning, waking up at noon, having our first meal of the day at 3pm, which is right smack in the middle of other people's mealtimes. That was why the restaurant was relatively empty when we arrived at 3pm in the afternoon for lunch.

We got the Ebi Tempura ($10), sweet and crunchy prawns encased in a very light but crisp batter.

The BF got the beancurd version of the Ebi Tempura, the Agedashi Tofu ($5), silky smooth and soft beancurd in a light batter.

We also got the Teriyaki Steak with Garlic ($12) grilled beef slathered in sweet teriyaki sauce and topped with aromatic fried garlic.

The Garlic Fried Rice with Chicken ($8) was garlicky and fragrant, each grain of rice evenly coated with the aroma of garlic. Somehow, the garlic seasoning managed to bring about a fragrance without overwhelming the delicate sweetness of the rice.

We did have some greens, in the form of Sashimi Salad ($9) with Wafuu Dressing. The piquant dressing enhanced the natural flavours of the raw salmon, tuna and squid.

It was quiet when we dined here at Paragon, so I think the food turned out better. The chef was probably less rushed and had more time to take more care in delivering the dishes. We were dining during peak lunch hour at the China Square outlet and it was a full-house, so the food consequently was more rushed and was of a lower quality.
