Prego

Prego recently refreshed its menu. I like that Prego regularly updates its menu to reflect the seasonal offerings, so you get a little variety in their menu selections.

The set dinner prices are now lower and more value-for-money. A 4-course set dinner including an appetizer, soup, main and dessert costs only $58. It previously cost about $76 for a 2-course meal.

The set menu starter was the Home Smoked Tuna Carpaciota, served with Kalamata olives, organic mint, cherry tomatoes, and apples salad in raspberry vinaigrettes. Lovely slices of tuna were smoked to perfection, with a gorgeous still-pink centre. The apple salad lent a refreshing tartness to the smoked tuna.

We didn't like the set menu dessert of vanilla rice pudding, so the waiter kindly offered to double the portion of our soup instead. We also didn't like the soup of the day so he very obligingly offered to switch it with a Cream of Mushroom Soup instead. How accommodating and sweet was that! The soup was rich, thick and creamy, with tiny barely discernible bits of blended mushrooms swirling around the truffle oil scented soup.

For the main, we chose the Pan Seared Farm Snapper with Organic Pumpkin Mousseline, served with Green Asparagus and Smoked Tomato Salsa. This was a little too tiny a portion for our liking, but the fish was clear, moist and fresh.

We also ordered a pasta to share, the Agnolotti Brasato in Salsa Leggera di Funghi ($28), a variety of ravioli filled with braised beef shank tossed in a earthy and creamy porcini mushroom sauce.

I got my favourite, the daily special Risotto del Giorno ($33) with Onion and Bacon. This was yummy, creamy and cheesy, yet still delicate. Fresh crisp onion provided a clean fresh flavour to the richness of the cream and cheese.
