Ya Zhou Cafe

Although the BF is half-Korean, we don't eat Korean food all that much. Mostly because there's a dearth of authentic Korean restaurants in Singapore. Further, with the exception of Korean bbq, I'm really not a huge fan of Korean food.

We made a pitstop here to refuel while grocery shopping one evening. The BF got the Pork Bibimbap ($6.50), a traditional Korean rice dish topped with julienned carrots, cucumber, spinach, mushrooms, sauteed pork and an egg, served in a heated stone pot. A dollop of spicy bean paste is added to flavour the rice, and the ingredients are all stirred together thoroughly before eating.

Because this dish is so simple and easy to make, we figured it was a fail-safe choice. We were right, Ya Zhou Cafe's version of this incredibly healthy Korean classic was rather respectable. The ingredients were fresh, vegetables were crunchy and sweet, and the bean paste added just the right amount of flavour and spice.

The Bibimbap was served with some Kimchi, which really wasn't good at all. It was too dry and mild.

A side of spiced Anchovies, which also wasn't great. We didn't finish this either.

The hygiene of this joint is so bad NEA has to suspend them for 2 weeks cos they have chalk up more then 18 points. That would also mean it's not the first time they flouted the rule
