Ah Loy Thai

Although we were a little tired, we still decided to run to Ah Loy Thai because I wanted some tom yum soup and since Ah Loy Thai is so near anyway.

We got the Tom Yum Goong ($6.50), Thai spicy and sour soup with prawns, straw mushrooms and oyster mushrooms, which was a luxe addition. This was tongue-numbingly hot, the heat thwarted only by the sour accents of lime.



We also got the Phat Thai ($4.50), Thai rice noodles stir-fried with prawns, chicken, crunchy beansprouts, baby dried shrimp, cubed beancurd and scrambled eggs. The noodles were nice and smoky, with fragrant aromas of tamarind, fish sauce, and lime juice.


As the mango sticky rice dessert was sold out, we got the Thai Chendol ($2.50) instead. Strips of jackfruit, cubes of green and pink jelly, red rubies (flour-coated water chestnuts) and bits of mashed yam top a sugar syrup coconut milk concoction.


This is also one of the very few places outside of Thailand that offers Lemongrass Juice ($1.70), so this was a rare treat to one of our favourite juices. Ah Loy Thai's version is a little diluted, but still refreshing.
