Prive Cafe

Wow, 2015 has taken off at light speed. It was a veryyyyy longgggg first working week of the year, and the weekend could not have arrived sooner.

I needed a break away from the buzz of the city center, so we stole away to the tranquility of Prive Cafe at Keppel island for brunch. Sitting alfresco, looking out into the view of the sparkling waters over the horizon, and soothed by the calming rhythm of the lapping waves, was rejuvenating. The food isn't all that fantastic, but we come here more for the view anyway.

The Spaghetti Aglio Olio ($18) was a smidge amateurish, but it was generously freckled with crisp bacon, sundried tomatoes, , baby spinach, and pinenuts. Copious lashings of garlic, bird's eye chilli and parsley added simple flavours.

Ditto for the Prive's Ultimate Brekkie ($20), loaded with a couple of fluffy scrambled eggs, juicy chicken frankfurter, crisp maple-toasted bacon, roasted roma tomato, sauteed mushrooms, rosti patty, and a somewhat humdrum wholemeal toast.

The Plain Jane Burger ($21) simply adorned with a sumptuous wagyu patty, melted cheddar, crunchy pickles, tomatoes clamped between toasted buttered burger buns, was pretty commendable. Thick fries and mesclun played second bass.

The Margherita ($18) with buffalo mozzarella, tomatoes and basil, was a little lackluster; the crust was too crunchy, and I'd have preferred a chewier, less biscuit-like crust.

The Fisherman's Catch ($20), loaded with shrimp, squid and mussels, and countered with red peppers, salsa verde, basil and arugula, was better.

The Soup-of-the-Day, a Pumpkin Cream ($13) was commendable, a sweet puree dotted with chunks of roasted pumpkin dice, with a hint of smoky char from the roast.
