Uncle Leong Seafood

Uncle Leong's is one of the viable options for a post-workout dinner because of its proximity to the club gym and the fact that it opens till 11.30pm every night. I love the service here. The shop proprietor and his son are so affable and friendly, they'll sit and chat with you whenever they are winding down for the night.

This is connected to the Mellben group of seafood restaurants, and they are one of those rare family-run chain of restaurants that actually get along fabulously with one another.

We ordered the Black Pepper Crabs ($40 per kg) today. This was spicy, sticky, garlicky and slightly sweet. The subtle heat of the black pepper brings out the natural sweetness of the crab meat.

We also got the Diced Chicken with Spring Onion and Ginger ($8 for small portion). This was really addictive. The chicken was succulent, and the simplicity of sauteing it in spring onion, ginger and oyster sauce adds just that right amount of flavour.

The gravy in the Beancurd with Crab Meat ($10 for small portion) was really luscious. Eggy sauce coupled with shredded fresh crabmeat with sprinkles of crab meat roe for texture, this was great for slathering over steaming hot white rice.

We wanted more veggies, so we ordered the Mixed Vegetables ($10 for small portion), which came chock full of baby kailan, carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, sliced pork, fresh squid and crunchy prawns.

Update 6 June 2011: Uncle Leong has moved to 6 Tebing Lane, #01-03 Punggol East.
