Omakase Burger

The Grandstand, after a major million-dollar overhaul, is currently enjoying a revival of sorts. There are now up to 20 eateries here running the international gamut from Japanese grills to Australian pies, and wherever you find food, you'll find Singaporeans. Weekends will find this place brimming with nearby residents on a night out.

There has been quite a fair bit of online chatter about Omakase Burger. Since we're currently staying nearby, we took the opportunity to check out what the fuss was all about. I was previously under the impression that Omakase Burger was a pricier version of MOS Burger, going by its Japanese-sounding name, but it turned out to be a fallacy. Despite its moniker, Omakase Burger was actually started by 2 local boys. While Omakase Burger is indeed more expensive than MOS Burger, it has American stylings, without any Japanese influences. And, it is admittedly overpriced, especially in light of the small-ish portions. However, the pricetags are quickly negated by the awesomeness of the burgers here.

Each artery-clogging burger is dripping with delicious juices and the buns are such fluffy pillows of buttery goodness. The burgers here are built on a base of textured hand-ground beef patty medium done, fresh tomatoes, wilted onions, crisp lettuce, melted cheese and a dollop of that tangy spiced secret sauce. Anything else extra like bacon and mushrooms merely counts as a variation of the base stuff.

The Ultimate Cheeseburger ($17.90) is the everything-"bao-ga-liao" option with both mushrooms and bacon. For those greedy ones that can't decide, this is THE option. It's awesome. You'll be licking your fingers clean off, I swear.

The Deluxe Cheeseburger ($15.90) is with added sauteed white button mushrooms for mushroom lovers.

The Bacon Cheeseburger ($15.90) speaks for itself. The Hubs loves this. Disclaimer: he loves bacon.

Now that Seah Street Deli is closed, Omakase Burger is the next readily available place for the Hubs to get his Root Beer Float ($5.50) fix, with A&W root beer and soft serve vanilla ice-cream. This was thirst-quenchingly good. All frothy and icy and sweet.

I have heard really good things about the restaurants there! Wanted to go try the dessert place there too, pity that it is really too far. Might go during the school holidays though

so far, I've only tried valentine's (a reliable favourite), omakase burger, and old nanyang café (great chicken stew and curry chicken). haven't quite tried the rest yet. there's A LOT! it's quite a pain to get there if you don't live nearby or don't drive though. :(
